Third Year Projects Conference – Department of Public Health

The students of the department of public health carry out a research or intervention project in one of the health institutions during their third year of studies. Each pair of students is joined by a pair of mentors – one from the college staff, and the other from the institution in which they are performing the project. Working this way, the students get to apply the material studied during the degree, while at the same time getting to really see the nature of the work in the health institutions. The prior introduction to the staff at the medical facility helps the students with finding a place to work in the future.

In the middle of the third year, the students present the research program, and at the end of the year they present its findings. In the current academic year, the students conduct research on the following topics: The impact of fires in the Gaza envelope on the frequencies of visits to the ERs of Barzilai Hospital, a comparison between referrals of foreign workers and those of Israelis to the orthopedic department in Barzilai, a description of the attitudes of physicians at Barzilai Hospital regarding euthanasia, Description of wear out and exposure to violence among nurses in the hospital Nurses in the hospital, follow-up studies on the success of intervention to prevent smoking in schools, the examination of the correlation  between pregnant women’s dietary habits and the results of blood sugar testing, and finally parental attitudes towards childhood immunizations.
