Annual Conference of the Center for Support of Learning Disabilities and Special Needs

On May 12th, the annual conference of the Center for Support of Learning Disabilities and Special Needs was held in collaboration with the Municipality of Ashkelon.

The main theme of the year was “Appreciation to the Mentors in the Academy-Community Project”. A blessed project that began with the “Student Mentors a Student ” project with Perah-Leshem, and produced tremendous success in the achievements of the students, and was also replicated and brought to the community by Dr. Miri Karisi, who heads the center.

In this project, students with learning disabilities who experienced the learning challenges and managed to overcome them themselves joined students with learning disabilities or students with special needs and served as an adult sibling for learning and improving social skills.

The conference was opened by Dr. Miri Karisi, who presented the activities of the center and the project’s outputs, its partners in the Ashkelon Municipality project, and the donors who helped fund the fellowship and its partners.

The mayor – Mr. Tomer Glam, who has special needs close to his heart, honored with his presence and spoke out about the importance of this project. Other representatives from the Municipality of Ashkelon: Deputy Mayor – Ms. Mirei Altit, Director of the Education Administration – Mr. Yuval Zuzet, Director of the Department of Education – Ms. Galit Marciano and Ms. Sophie Hotovely Pinhas – Chairman of the Central Parents Committee.

Rector of the College, Prof. Shimon Sharvit praised Dr. Krisi for her extensive work for the college students.

The highlight of the conference was the fascinating lecture by Capt. Ziv Shilon, who lost his hand during operational activity in the Gaza Strip, rehabilitated himself and motivated himself to inspiring Olympic achievements.
