The Multi-Disciplinary Center at the Ashkelon Academic College initiated a special evening on the subject of Israel and Gaza – where is it headed?

The event was held on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the end of the first semester, with hundreds of students participating in the Center’s various programs and lecturers from the college.The event was opened with a speech given by the head of the center, Dr. Dov Levitan, and was followed by warm welcoming greetings by Rector of the College, Prof. Shimon Sharvit.

The first session hosted experts from the college and guest lecturers on various aspects of the complex reality between Israel and the citizens of Gaza. Dr. Lt. Col. Kobi Michael of the Institute for National Security Studies analyzed the strategic aspects of the conflict; Dr. Col. David Chacham, who was the adviser to the defense ministers on Arab affairs, shared his personal impressions of the Hamas’ leadership.

Brig. Gen. Ephraim Lapid, former IDF Spokesperson and Senior Intelligence Officer and currently a lecturer at the College, presented the battleof the mind currently taking place in Gaza ,Israel and the world. Professor Zaki Shalom, a lecturer at the College, summarized the first session with insights from the point of view of the leading superpowers and Israel.

Later, we hosted Defense Minister and former Chief of Staff Moshe Ya’alon, who briefed us on the overall perception of the confrontation with the Palestinians from the political and military aspects. He was not caring an optimistic projection of the future. His message was that the conflict will have to continue being managed knowing there is no immediate solution.
