Politics and the Eurovision Song Contest – a guest lecture by PhD students from Sweden- the Department of Tourism

On Wednesday, 15.5, Jack Shepard and Martin Westam, both of whom currently work on their PHD at Sweden’s Mid-Sweden University, were guests in the tourism department here in Ashkelon Academic College. Jack, a political tourism researcher, and Martin, a mega-event researcher, decided to cooperate to explore the political aspects of the Eurovision Song Contest held in Tel Aviv. In a lecture to second year students in the tourism department, they detailed the impact of huge events on the tourism of the host destination, and shared with us the history of political involvement in the Eurovision Song Contest. It was fascinating!
